Biblical Significance of the Number 7

This could be anything from the number of letters in a word, recurring numbers, verses in a chapter of the Bible…in short, any aspect of life can find a place in numerology. Astrology would be a prime example of this. Seven appears throughout many different religions or spiritual circles.

In order to fully grasp just how often it appears, we’ll need to explore each of the faiths and the significance of 7 within them.

We’ll start off with the Bible. Seven appears 54 times within Revelations (the final book of the Bible) but a grand total of 735 times when taking the entire Bible into consideration but when you include words that contain the word ‘seven’ such as “sevenfold” or “seventh” that total becomes 860.

An example of this would be God resting on the 7th day after creating everything within the universe. As we explore the Bible further, we find it originally contained seven main sections: Law, Prophets, Psalms, Gospels, General Epistles, the Epistles of Paul, and finally: the book of Revelations.

The Apostle John gives Jesus seven titles and Jesus himself gives seven parables in Matthew 13 and performs seven miracles on the Holy Sabbath day. The book of revelations is rife with significant sevens. It is mentioned that there are seven last plagues, marked by seven trumpets and seven seals with seven churches each with an angel (so seven angels) and of course seven thunders.

Further Biblical Symbolism of Number 7

The references to seven don’t stop there. There are seven Holy Days and of course, there’s no forgetting the seven deadly sins (also known as the seven cardinal sins).

The Star of David (a symbol primarily found within Judaism) has six points which represent the six universal directions while the center/inner core represents the spiritual dimension. So the Star contains seven areas within itself.

Some Kabbalists wrap long strands of red string around the Tomb of Rachel (located near Bethlehem) seven times before cutting it into bracelets of protection.

However, now is not the time to become lazy, as there is still much work to be done. Use this progress as motivation for continuing to shine with excellence, as your angels are sending this number in recognition of the effort that you have made so far.

Other Faiths and the Meaning of Number 7

The number 7 meaning isn’t limited solely to the Bible. For example, if we take a look at Buddhism, we find that the mother of Siddhartha Buddha (named Maya) died seven days after giving birth to her son.

There were also seven factors of the enlightenment and seven universal mental constituents. Within the Bahá’i Faith which originated in Iran and is most popular within the Middle East, there are the Seven Valleys which are the seven spiritual stages of development that one must travel through in order to reach God.
